CRS Codes beginning with Q, X and Z are reserved for specific uses, as described below.

Q

Only a limited number CRS Codes beginning with the letter Q have been allocated to stations in CORPUS…

All other “Q” series CRS Codes were released by the CORPUS controller for use in Eurostar’s Elgar system, to allow Private Settlement products to be marketed in that system. Though Elgar no longer exists the Q CRS Codes were not returned to CORPUS and some have since been used for a similar purpose in domestic rail retail systems.

As these do not exist in CORPUS they are directly edited in the location record in PMS. As at July 2019 these Q Codes are in use:

It should be noted that the use of Q CRS codes in this manner is ad-hoc with no guarantee that they will resolve the retailing issue encountered by the owning TOC. Failures are mostly related to Zonal tickets.

The allocation of these codes is a PMS Service Desk task, with the file “3-Alpha Q Codes.xls” providing a record.

X

CRS Codes beginning with the letter X are allocated in CORPUS to a variety of locations that are not National Rail stations. Those locations may be railway stations on other networks; other passenger locations such as port and bus stops; or non-passenger locations such as depots, carriage sidings, freight yards and junctions.

Those codes allocated to non-passenger locations are thought to be used in one or more rail operating systems.

468 “X” series CRS Codes were in use as at July 2019.

Z

CRS Codes beginning with the letter Z are allocated in CORPUS for two different purposes:

Stations owned by London Underground or Docklands Light Railway: Some stations served by LUL/DLR services and National Rail services may have more than one CRS Code, e.g. South Ruislip has ZSR and SRU. Which of these codes is used in PMS and rail retail systems will depend to some extent on who provides the principle service, but there are some exceptions to that for historic purposes.

Eurostar: 81 CRS Codes in the “Z” series have descriptions similar to this: “EUROSTAR01”. The purpose of these codes is not known but it is not thought that any exist as locations in PMS.
