The ITPS timetable data published by Network Rail contains advertised passenger train schedules for all the Train Operating Companies.

Trains operated by third-parties wholly or partly over Network Rail tracks also appear in the ITPS data; principally for train operating purposes, but also for passenger retailing where National Rail fares are valid. Services meeting the latter condition include:

  •
  • London Underground Bakerloo Line between Queens Park-Harrow & Wealdstone

  •
  • London Underground District Line between Richmond-Gunnersbury

  •
  • Tyne & Wear Metro between Sunderland-Newcastle Airport

  •

Though the ITPS schedules include some stops beyond the boundaries of the Network Rail infrastructure those remote locations may not necessarily be displayed in public-facing journey planners.

Trains on one further route appear in the ITPS source data, but do not get into PMS or public-facing systems because they do not serve any National Rail stations:

  • London Underground District Line between Wimbledon-East Putney

Passenger trains run by four further operators, that do call at National Rail stations, are deliberately excluded from DTD, PMS and public-facing journey planners. National Rail tickets are not valid on those trains, so their absence prevents them from being quoted incorrectly to the public:

  • Eurostar

  • North Yorks Moors Railway steam trains running between Pickering-Whitby via Grosmont

  • West Coast Railways steam trains running between Fort William-Mallaig

  • Sheffield Supertram between Sheffield and Rotherham Parkgate
